What does an SEO company do?

Short answer: An SEO company improves how visible your business is in Google's free results. That means fixing technical problems on your website, optimising pages for the searches your customers make, setting up and managing your Google Business Profile, building genuine local links and citations, creating useful content, and reporting on rankings, traffic, calls and enquiries.

“SEO” can sound like a black box. In reality, a good SEO company does a fairly predictable set of jobs, and you should be able to see each of them in your monthly report. Here is what that work looks like for a local business, and how we approach SEO for Penrith businesses.

1. Audit where you stand

Good SEO starts with an honest look at where you rank today, which searches bring in customers, what your competitors are doing and what is holding your website back. This is where the quick wins are found.

2. Fix technical problems

Google has to be able to crawl, understand and trust your website. An SEO company checks:

  • Site speed and mobile usability
  • Pages Google cannot index, or indexes twice
  • Broken links, redirects and errors
  • Structured data (schema) that helps Google understand your business

Many small business websites have issues here that quietly hold them back for years.

3. Optimise your pages

Each important service and area should have a clear page with titles, headings and content that match what people actually search. For example, “electrician St Marys” and “emergency electrician Penrith” need content that answers those searches, not a single generic services page.

4. Manage your Google Business Profile

For local businesses, the map pack (the three map listings at the top of local searches) is usually the most valuable spot on the page. An SEO company sets up your categories, services, service areas, photos and posts, and helps you build a steady flow of genuine reviews.

Google trusts websites that other trusted websites mention. That means local citations (directories like Yellow Pages and True Local), genuine links from local organisations and suppliers, and content that is actually useful to read.

6. Track and report

Rankings on their own do not pay the bills. A good SEO company tracks calls, form enquiries and bookings from organic search and reports in plain English: what was done, what changed and what is next.

What an SEO company should not do

  • Promise guaranteed rankings
  • Buy cheap, spammy links that can get your site penalised
  • Lock you into a contract you cannot leave
  • Keep ownership of your website, Google Business Profile or analytics

You should always own your accounts. We work month to month, and everything we set up belongs to you.
